Hawaii-IBIS Query System Contents and Usage

The Hawaii-IBIS Query System provides a simple-to-use interface that allows a user to step through data selection options and perform custom queries of Hawaii's public health databases.

What is a custom query?

A custom query is a web page where the user can select a dataset (e.g. BRFSS) and a health indicator (e.g. smoking status) and then limit or aggregate the results by year, geography, gender, and additional demographic factors to obtain data in a table, graph and/or map. Available datasets are listed below as well as on the left navigation buttons in this section. The available selections for filtering the data and defining cross-tabulations depend on what is available in the data set.

Basic steps to follow:

  1. Select a dataset from the navigation menu on the left side of this page.
  2. Click on a category (blue bar) and "drill down" (click on further selections) to select a health indicator to query.
  3. Build your query. You can either run the default query by clicking on the Submit button at the top of the query page, or you can use the optional steps to filter or aggregate your query and change the way the results are displayed.
  4. Submit your query. After you have finished making selections, click on the "Submit" button to run your query.
  5. View and/or modify your results. From the results page you can select/change a chart, export to Excel, use the "Modify Query Definition" to modify your query selections, or start a new query by selecting a different indicator.

See the Resources and Help pages for more query system information.
