Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) Health Indicator Selection

Overview

The PRAMS is a surveillance system that collects state-specific, population-based data on maternal attitudes and experiences before, during, and shortly after pregnancy. It is implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Hawaii State Department of Health. Selected women with a recent live birth are mailed the PRAMS questionnaire, multiple times if necessary. If there is no response, a telephone follow-up protocol is initiated. PRAMS data are linked to the infant's birth certificate for additional information. The sample is obtained through complex survey design and the results are weighted to represent all women with a recent birth in Hawaii.
